Keeping Property Affordable for Generations with a Community Land Trust
Community Land Trusts (CLTs) can be used for residential homeownership, rental, and businesses. This session is an introduction to CLTs by the Florida Housing Coalition’s CLT Institute. The CLT model will be explained in the context of its use for government surplus donated land, for church owned property being used for affordable housing, for rental housing, homeownership, and even for protecting local businesses from the pressures of gentrification. The CLT model provides assurances that the developed land will forever meet the mission of providing affordable housing to an income eligible population. This workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of the community land trust model and we will schedule follow up offsite or on-site assistance for those who want to explore starting a CLT in their community or using the 99 year ground lease model for a particular development.
