Professor Thomas W. Mitchell is a Professor at Texas A&M University School of Law where he co-directs the Program in Real Estate and Community Development Law. He is a national expert on property issues facing disadvantaged communities and has published leading scholarship addressing these matters. Professor Mitchell also has done extensive legal reform and policy work, most prominently serving as the principal drafter for the Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act (UPHPA), which was promulgated by the Uniform Law Commission in 2010. The UPHPA has been enacted into law in 18 states/jurisdictions in every region of the country. Professor Mitchell is a graduate of Amherst College, the Howard University School of Law, and the University of Wisconsin Law School where he received an LL.M. and served as a William H. Hastie Fellow. Professor Mitchell is a member of a number of professional organizations including the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.
